Plans get moving

Its great to be up early on the golf course. Here are some shots I took on my phone (hence the poor quality) of the course before the members get to play it. You get to see some fantastic views as the sun comes up and the place is tranquil, only punctuated by the noise of some amazing wildlife.

The causeway picture looks great. We have done a lot of work on this area and sometimes people have not been sure about the need for it. Ill put a picture up later of what it used to look like. Hopefully the club will get me a better camera!

Dear members

As many of you know the club is embarking on many improvements to the golf course over the next couple of years. We have appointed an architect, Guy Hockley of GAGA design, http://www.goldenagegolfarchitecture.com/golf-course-designer.htm and he has come up with some superb plans, most of which are agreed and some are already in the ground.

I am undertaking the first stage of the process by confirming the improvement strategy with the board of directors and this information will be released to the members of the club as soon as possible. We understand everyone's frustrations in the lack of information thus far. To correct this,  I will be designing a website to allow members to access the information on the redesign and ask questions. Work will be posted, as it happens through this blog and through Twitter @blgcgd. Please follow both to keep up to date. One of the reasons for this post is to check that that the two are linked correctly.

We are all working very hard to make this a success for the club. The improvements will make our members even more proud of the club than they currently are and they will strengthen Bearwood Lakes position as one of the best clubs in the country.

The rescue in the fescue

As many of you will have seen, the rescue applications in the rough have been brilliant. The thicker Yorkshire Fog grasses have died off and the Fescue is doing really well. This will create a much thinner sward in the summer, especially if we get a spray on it again before the season starts.

5th Approach

Work on draining the fifth approach continues. The soil is heavy clay and this work should make a big difference. We thank you for your patience while this is being carried out.

The work on five lake is coming to an end. The lake is filling up and the island is being tidied. Steve has done an excellent job of grading it off and we are now talking to a seed company about oversowing the lake banks with wildflowers to create a fantastic finish.
