Bug-ingham Palace!
As custodians of 250 acres of land we have a huge environmental responsibility. Environmental management at Bearwood Lakes is a part of an overall approach encompassing all aspects of the estate and although recently we have had some negative comments about tree management, overall the estate has a positive environmental and ecological contribution to the local area.
One aspect of our work is to promote and encourage wildlife in out of play areas. The picture below shows woodchip piles, stacked logs and roofing tiles arranged to encourage grass snakes, slow worms and insects such as the Stag Beetle. When studying the local area for wildlife inhabitants it was discovered that most of the snakes prefered to be on the margins close to the road rather than in the middle of the dense woodland. This particular refuge is sited near the road on the edge of the 12th tee woodland.
