Plans get moving
Work on the redesign is getting going at a real rate now. Picture shows Guy Hockey (architect) and Steve Parker (construction technician) discussing the changes to the bunker by the first green.

For Rob Faulkner
The causeway picture looks great. We have done a lot of work on this area and sometimes people have not been sure about the need for it. Ill put a picture up later of what it used to look like. Hopefully the club will get me a better camera!

Dear members
As many of you know the club is embarking on many improvements to the golf course over the next couple of years. We have appointed an architect, Guy Hockley of GAGA design, http://www.goldenagegolfarchitecture.com/golf-course-designer.htm and he has come up with some superb plans, most of which are agreed and some are already in the ground.
I am undertaking the first stage of the process by confirming the improvement strategy with the board of directors and this information will be released to the members of the club as soon as possible. We understand everyone's frustrations in the lack of information thus far. To correct this, I will be designing a website to allow members to access the information on the redesign and ask questions. Work will be posted, as it happens through this blog and through Twitter @blgcgd. Please follow both to keep up to date. One of the reasons for this post is to check that that the two are linked correctly.
We are all working very hard to make this a success for the club. The improvements will make our members even more proud of the club than they currently are and they will strengthen Bearwood Lakes position as one of the best clubs in the country.

The rescue in the fescue
As many of you will have seen, the rescue applications in the rough have been brilliant. The thicker Yorkshire Fog grasses have died off and the Fescue is doing really well. This will create a much thinner sward in the summer, especially if we get a spray on it again before the season starts.

5th Approach

You forget what it used to look like
Sometime you forget what things used to look like. The guys have worked hard over the years and much of the good work just becomes the norm as standards get raised. Here is a little picture of the bed on 10, which is really coming on and a little picture of what that area used to look like - sorry the old one is a bit blurry - camera phones weren't as good then!
Drainage work on the 5th
The work never stops here at Bearwood Lakes and we have started draining the 5th approach. It is very wet and we need to make it much better. Work will be undertaken here for the next few weeks and hopefully it will be much dryer and more playable in the future. Unfortunately we will have to have a temporary green on the 5th as you will not be able to see the greenstaff working.
Lake work is coming to an end
The staff have worked incredibly hard planning and organizing the executing the lake development work on 5. The project for now is coming towards a completion and I think we can see that the quality of the work is excellent and also that it will look much better in the future. I have a meeting with some grass seed specialists to see if can get a wildflower mix to establish on the side of the lake. If we can this would make the final project look fantastic .
