Bunkers

The bunker work this week looks great. Neat, tidy but totally natural looking.

More drainage

One of the most important drainage arteries on the golf course is from the 3rd green to 5th ditch via the pond on the right if the fifth fairway. We are making sure it all works for the winter and adding in a spur round the 6th tees to help drain this notoriously wet tee surround and tee complex. We also repaired two main drain which were blocked with tree roots. They have been running ever since!

This work will continue to make the golf course more playable and better quality in the winter.

New view

I have worked at bearwood lakes a long time now and one of the most amazing things about the golf course is that you constantly see new views that inspire you.

Here is my newest, members will easily be able to see where this shot is from. An awesome estate and one I'm  very proud to manage.

Bunkers

This bunker might wash out constantly ,be awkward to mow and difficult to get grass on the slopes;
However I think this is the best bunker change on the course. The old bunker was poor and this one sits so nicely into the green and looks great. It sets the golf course off so well.

Update

Its been a while since I have written something very substantial. The trend of Twitter seems to have got to me as quick posts during work seem the order of the day.

With no let up in the weather I think the golf course will steadily lose colour and I thought I would just post a up a few recent photos of the golf course looking good. The reviews of the golf course in the last few weeks have been great. We always try to manage the golf course to be the best it can possibly be every day, but sometimes mother nature helps us out. It also shows why the reservoir is much needed. We only have a daily allowance for water and much like your pocket money as a kid, only £1 per day meant you could never get anything big. We are not allowed to save up and just have to spend the daily amount. We have not used much water so far this year, but we just dont have the capacity to ET match the water application, and it will go brown sooner or later looking at the forecast. On the plus side it is great for the members to get great weather and enjoy being a member of this great club.

From the 4th greenside bunker

The 11th hole

The 10th hole - a great viewing point the members rarely see

The 6th hole - we have top dressed this hole a few times in spring and it seems to have made the difference

The 4th hole from the black tees

The third from the blacks, tough shot!!!

and relaxing with a beer after work!!

But  there has also been much more work completed  before autumn.

The drainage of the chipping green has been completed. We are constantly looking to upgrade this area. The chipping green approach in the winter is very wet and we are always looking to provide first class year round facilities. Hopefully this will go some way to doing that. We have also compleed many projects which will improve the course next year, most of which are drainage. We have improved the drainage on the 2nd dip, chipping green, 11th ladies tee and the 12th ditch. One of our biggest complaint is winter condition and with all the work done last year we should be in much better shape.  Thanks to Gary for his continued investment

To keep the fairway in good condition we need good quality tractors to undertake a large amount of work. Our largest tractor, a John Deere 5400, which we use for our woodchipper, vertidrain and fairway topdresser needs and new clutch and other remidial works. It has sone 4000 hours, which is proably the equivialnt to a car doing 100,000 miles.

We are doing more and more of this work in house to ben able to spend our money more wisely. Jim, our Workshop Manager is doing this after work, whilst keeping on top of all his other duties. It is going ok so far, although it might not look like it!
