Its not all bad!!

Many of you might think that we are just putting in bunkers and not making the course any easier. Just to put your mind at rest, you can see from the picture below the changes to the golf course are more about playability than difficulty!

A greenside bunker is to be added to the 2nd green, to improve the look and challenge of the hole. It will make you think about what side of the fairway to play to, which was never much of a consideration before. Now, left if definitely best and to help that we have made the fairway wider on the left in front of the bunker and quite considerably (although you cant see it well in the photo) by the left hand side of the green. The extension have been highlighted on the picture, although my skills with paintshop need some work.  Those who have hit good second or third shots to the left of the green have a nice tight lie with no hazards in the way. However if you hit a poorly directed shot to the right side of the fairway, you will have to navigate the bunker.

Architecture as it should be, making you think about where to place the ball to give you the best chance of making par or better.

Enjoy!! Daniel

Random happenings!!

Before I leave for foreign shores, for a well needed break after club championship week I thought I would just post a few words to keep everybody up to date. Most of you will have seen that work has begun on the 1st bunkers. Both bunkers will be rough shaped and looked at by Guy Hockley on Wednesday. Once we know Guy is happy we can put in the drainage and make any final adjustments before he returns to sign it off and then we can turf it.

It is our aim to get the bunkers on the 1st and 2nd completed and in play for the Pro-am on the 28th September.  We are currently meeting with regard to the winter work and we will inform all the members of the club when we have finalised the details.

The bunker on 5 is finished and it looks great. For the first construction working with the architect, the guys have done a great job interpreting his vision. I predict the process will be quicker as we go further into the project.

The work has really tightened the fairway up in the landing zone and we have extended the fairway out on the other side to compensate but I must apologise as it is not very much!! We will remove a few trees to get the shape right but I think you will just have to be a little more accurate in future.

Unfortunately we have also had the usual vandalism and I would ask every member to inform the pro shop if they see people on the golf course who clearly should not be there. Amusingly, like every good artist the vandal signed his work. Unfortunately this is the only bit of writing I can upload as the rest was a little more colourful!

Anyway - there are many other things going on at the club at the moment but ill save that for another day. I hope you are all enjoying some of the new architectural changes.
