Bug-ingham Palace!

As custodians of 250 acres of land we have a huge environmental responsibility. Environmental management at Bearwood Lakes is a part of an overall approach encompassing all aspects of the estate and although recently we have had some negative comments about tree management,  overall the estate has a positive environmental and ecological contribution to the local area.

One aspect of our work is to promote and encourage wildlife in out of play areas. The picture below shows woodchip piles, stacked logs and roofing tiles arranged to encourage grass snakes, slow worms and insects such as the Stag Beetle. When studying the local area for wildlife inhabitants it was discovered that most of the snakes prefered to be on the margins close to the road rather than  in the middle of the dense woodland. This particular refuge is sited near the road on the edge of the 12th tee woodland.

Yet more progress!!

Great news from golf week - we have been ranked the best modern golf course in England !!

http://golfweek.com/news/2011/jan/04/2011-golfweeks-best-modern-gbi-courses/?RANKINGS-GolfweeksBest

Well done all - and that's before anyone has played the golf course with all the new changes

The future is bright - especially as it is due to snow in a few hours!!
Trees

Due to the extensive work on the re-design and improvement of Bearwood Lakes Golf Course over the last year, we have had to remove several trees. Whilst much of the work has been received well thus far, it is the tree work, some of it very positive, on 7 and 17 especially, that has attracted the most concern and criticism.

Rather than trying to justify all the reasons for the tree work which is part of a wider landscape and ecological development plan, I thought it might be better to read something someone else has written. Click on the link below to see a great article on Trees on the golf course

new ninth taking shape - don't worry this photos is off the blacks, the other tees are all two clubs shorter

Thursday 2 February 2012

As we continue digging the lake for the new ninth hole, we can start to see how it might look. I have just put a few pictures below to show you how we are getting on. The new tees will give a great view of the hole but also give a nice view of the 8th green as you can see.

Raised view of the 8th green from the new ninth tee

View back from the 9th approach
View of the 9th green from the proposed black tee - might be a little tough from here but all other tees are two clubs shorter!
